CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) based at Hyderabad is one of the leading Research & Development (R&D) laboratories in India that was established in 1944. IICT has been primarily engaged in solving challenging problems associated with several industries especially in the area of drugs & pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, lipids, catalysis, polymers and functional materials, environmental, analytical, biological and engineering sciences. Enormous research efforts put in by the institute during past few decades have resulted in design, development and commercialization of several environment friendly and innovative technologies for industrial growth as well as societal welfare. IICT has a wide range of experimental and analytical facilities including well equipped pilot plants. Dr. S. Sridhar (Surname: Sundergopal)

Dr. S. Sridhar is a chemical engineer working as a Scientist for the past seventeen years at the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), Hyderabad where he heads the Membrane Separations Group. He has developed several novel separation technologies based on pervaporation and gas separation for chemical industries besides contributing immensely to rural welfare through water purification projects and academic growth through extensive HRD and laboratory development in schools and colleges. His contributions include flat sheet and hollow fiber membrane development, process design and commissioning of several membrane pilot plants of capacity varying from 4000 to 7500 L/batch, to facilitate solvent recovery and effluent treatment in pharmaceutical, textile and petrochemical industries. Dr. Sridhar has designed and installed twelve model defluoridation plants of 600-4000 L/h capacity based on Reverse Osmosis for purification of ground water for a population of more than 1 lakh in fluorosis affected villages of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. He has developed highly compact, low cost, high capacity water purification units for schools, hostels and hospitals besides a novel cascaded membrane system to produce demineralized water for bioprocess applications. Dr. Sridhar has published 116 research papers including 6 review articles in reputed international journals which are cited more than 4000 times by peers. He has 7 foreign patents, 7 Book Chapters, 112 articles in various conferences/symposia to his credit and has mentored more than 250 B.Tech./M.Tech./M.Sc. students for project work. Dr. Sridhar is a recipient of 21 Prestigious Awards including CSIR Young Scientist Award 2007, Scopus Young Scientist Award 2011, Hindustan Dorr Oliver Award 2012, NASI-Reliance Industries Platinum Jubilee Award 2013, VNMM Award from IIT-Roorkee in 2015 and more recently CIPET National Award for Application of Polymers in Public Health Care 2016.

Mr. Y.V.L. Ravikumar (Surname: Yerrapragada)

Mr. Y.V.L. Ravikumar is working as a Principal Technical Officer in Membrane Separation Laboratory, Chemical Engineering Division at CSIR-IICT, Hyderabad. His main areas of research include drinking water purification, processing of industrial effluents using membrane separation techniques such as nanofiltration, reverse osmosis, electrodialysis and membrane bioreactors to enable water reclamation and recovery of valuable organic solvents. He is also a well known expert in the field of properties of gases and liquids, distillation, reaction calorimtery besides being well trained in operation and maintenance of industrial pilot plants. Mr. Ravikumar is about to submit his PhD thesis based on treatment of industrial effluent and domestic wastewater under the guidance of Dr. S. Sridhar at JNTU, Kakinada. He is an author of 43 research papers, 1 book chapter and 2 patents besides a recipient of six prestigious awards including Gandhian Young Technological Innovation (GYTI) National Award in 2015 and CIPET National Award for 2016.



Ms. M. Madhumala (Surname: Madupathi)

Ms. M. Madhumala is a chemical engineer pursuing her PhD under Dr. S. Sridhar in Membrane Separation Laboratory, Chemical Engineering Division, CSIR-IICT. She completed her B.Tech. and MS in chemical engineering from University College of Technology, Osmania University, Hyderabad. Her main research areas include the development of novel cost effective flat sheet polymeric membranes for separation and recovery of valuable organic and inorganic compounds using membrane contactors, forward osmosis, membrane distillation, electrodialysis, nanofiltration and reverse osmosis processes. She is recipient of two prestigious awards “Gandhian Young Technological Innovation (GYTI) Team Award-2015” and “Dr. K V Rao Young Scientist Award-2015” besides the “Best oral presentation award” in a national conference organized by BITS Pilani, Hyderabad. She has published 7 papers in reputed international journals and 2 generic articles in popular magazines.




Mr. Shiva Prasad (Surname: Nandala)

Mr. Shiva Prasad is working as a project fellow in Membrane Separations Laboratory, Chemical Engineering Division at CSIR-IICT. He completed his graduation in chemical engineering from CVSR College of engineering affiliated to JNTU, Hyderabad. After his graduation he joined IICT in 2013 to work on challenging projects and has recently registered for a PhD program in Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) under the guidance of Dr. S. Sridhar. He has exhibited significant potential with strong determination towards design and development of innovative products in membrane technology. His areas of research include synthesis of novel hollow fiber membranes for surface water purification and Hemodialysis, clarification of edible oils. He has contributed immensely in the design and installation of highly compact units for ground water purification and biotech applications including ultrapure water for dialysis and growth of microbial cultures through the production of demineralized water at low cost. He has two publications in reputed international journals including Royal Society of Chemistry Advances and Carbohydrate Polymers.



Mr. Siddhartha Moulik (Surname: Moulik)

Mr. S. Moulik has been working as Trainee Scientist at CSIR-IICT on basic & applied research in membrane technology. He has obtained his Bachelor of Technology from Heritage Institute of Technology affiliated by West Bengal University of Technology in the year 2012 and Master of Technology from CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology in the year 2014 both in the discipline of Chemical Engineering. His main research areas include synthesis of polymeric membrane, transport phenomena, application of Computational Fluid dynamics and Molecular modeling for membrane separation processes. Mr. Moulik has 9 international research papers in various journals including Journal of Hazardous Materials, Carbohydrate Polymers, Desalination etc., 29 papers in various international/national conferences and 4 prestigious awards to his credit. The awards include Innovative Projects Award- 2015 form Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), Gandhian Young Technological Innovation Award- 2015 from National Innovation Foundation (NIF), India, Ambuja’s Young Researchers Award, 2014 from Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE), Entrepreneurship Week Award-2010 from National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN), India.


Mrs. Pavani Vadthya (Surname: Vadthya)

Mrs. Pavani Vadthya is 26 yr old, working as Trainee Scientist in Chemical Engineering Division, CSIR – Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), Hyderabad. She graduated from National Institute of Technology Warangal in Chemical Engineering and post graduated in Process Engineering Science from Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research, India. Currently she is pursuing her doctorial studies on solving challenging industrial problems through membrane separation processes under the guidance of Dr. S. Sridhar, Principal Scientist, CSIR-IICT. Mrs. Pavani published 5 research papers in reputed international journals such as Desalination, RSC Advances, Journal of Hazardous Materials etc; presented 13 technical papers in national and international symposia/conferences and published a special issue on Water Management. She has extensively worked in the areas of Electrodialysis, Pervaporation, Nanofiltration and Ultrafiltration. Fluoride precipitation in ground water, Crude glycerol purification, Bio-ethanol concentration, Solvent dehydration, Sugar concentration, Purification of pharmaceutical/food industrial effluents, Air separation, Desalination and Acid recovery include major applications of her research. She has also acquired basic knowledge on molecular modeling, Aspen Plus simulation and optimization techniques. She is bestowed with 2 prestigious national awards and 3 scholastic awards which include Young Engineers Award 2015-16 by Institution of Engineers India; Prathibha Award (Gold Medal) by Government of Andhra Pradesh, India; Best Paper Award in DAE-BRNS international symposia by Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Best Paper Award in National Conference on Innovations in Chemical Engineering by BITS Pilani and Best Poster Award in National Seminar on Emerging Trends and Challenges in Chemical Research.
